Slimline Christmas Card with a Bonus Card!

Hello and welcome - it’s Karen here today.  I’ve got a slimline card that features the Carol Kittens stamp set from Gerda Steiner Designs as well as one of the puppies from the Howl are You set and one of the kittens from the Christmas Kittens set. My card took a bit of a left turn along the way, and I ended up with a second bonus card for you, so you can see that card at the end of this post.

I’ve made a video showing how I made this card, so if you would like to see the video in HD, PLEASE CLICK HERE.

I started my card by cutting a piece of Strathmore watercolour paper to be about 9 x 4”, slightly larger than my rectangular die, and I taped it down to an old cutting board. After wetting it, I dropped in some Distress Ink reinkers in Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet and Dusty Concord. Once this was dry, I spattered it with some Kuretake Starry Colors paint in gold and let it dry.

I used a Trinity Stamps die called Wonky Stitched Wilderness slimline series to cut out my background. I also embossed some of the stars that come with this die set.  I coloured all my images with Copic markers and have listed them below, and then cut them out. I applied some glossy accents to the dogs’ collar and the ornaments. I also die cut a snowbank from white cardstock using the Lawn Fawn Hillside border dies.

When I went to assemble my card, things took a left turn.  I felt that the puppy was rather lost amongst all the kittens, but he was meant to be the singing star of the card.  So I removed the Christmas kitten in the tree (who I thought was looking very startled by the dogs’ singing), and he shows up later in the bonus card.  I die cut some trees from Sunny Studios Woodland Borders die set and covered them with Nuvo Moonstone glimmer paste.

I embossed and heat set the words “Joy”, “The World” and the musical symbols (all from the Carol Kittens stamp set), using some Stampendous Pearlustre Moonstone embossing powder onto my snowbank border.  I also used the word stamp “To Youuuuuuuu!!!” from the Howl are You set and changed it to “Tooooooooo” by masking and rotating the stamp to only stamp and emboss the bottom of the u’s.  I then cut this out to make a speech bubble.

To assemble my card, I foam mounted the snowbank and adhered it to the background.  I added some Nuvo shimmer pen just along the edge of the snowbank and then adhered the rest of my images. Finally, I glued the speech bubble in place to complete my card.  I love how that tabby kitten looks somewhat worried by the dog’s howling.

And for the Bonus Card ...

So even though I had this card done, I still had that kitten in the tree image coloured and cut, so I decided to make a second card with it.  I coloured one of the other kittens in the Christmas Kittens set, as well as the tree branches.

I die cut a panel of white cardstock with a wonky stitched rectangle die, and cut a lift the flap circle on this.  I heat embossed the “naughty or nice” sentiment around the flap in Stampendous Pearlustre Moonstone embossing powder.  I did the same for the word “Lift” on the flap.  I die cut a frame of gold foil cardstock and adhered this to my card base.  I glued the kitten in the tree in place so he would show up behind the flap, and then adhered my white rectangle panel to the card base.  I added the second kitten below the flap, and glued the tree branches over the flap itself.  I added glossy accents to all the ornaments. On the inside, I stamped the sentiment and added the broken ornament.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you’re having a great day!

Slimline Caroling Kittens & Puppies

Hi everyone! It’s Jeannie (InsideoutJeans) on the blog today with a card featuring Gerda Steiner Design’s stamp sets: Carol Kittens and Carol Puppies. Last year, I created cards with just each separate set but this year, I wanted to pull them back out to create a fun combination card. I love that they are the same size so they work perfectly together.

To get all these friends together onto a card, I used the trending slimline card to stamp them on. I almost got all of them but I am missing one. I could have squeeze them in but it seemed crowded enough already. I did stagger some in the front and some in the back.
Don't they all look like they are having so much fun! Once I stamped everything out, I had to take the time to color them up and I love that I could spend the time to color them all up.

The slimline card really allowed me to fit them all on the card and I think it's so fun! I even have a matching envelope so I can send it off.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you get inspired to create. Come back again soon for more inspiration and ideas! Happy Crafting!

Stitched Christmas card with Kaja

Hi there,
It's Kaja from Kajcyika crafts and today I have prepared a cute stitched Christmas card! :)

Take a look:
First thing I did was the background. Even though it's a small area it took me about 3 hours to stitch it all. I went with a scene look, so I made white snowy ground and blue sky with some white snow flakes in between.

After the background was stitched I stamped out the cute cat from the Carol Kitten stamp set. I colored it in using alcohol markers in traditional Christmas colors - green and red.
Then, I used the stamps from the same set to stamp out the sentiment. I heat embossed the 'to the world' part with white embossing powder on a black card stock and stamped out the 'joy' word with red ink.

Once everything was ready I cut down a piece of gray card stock which I put behind my stitched panel. I glued everything together using foam tape and liquid glue.

That's it for today, thank you so much for joining me and hope to see you soon!

Guest designer - ANNA, Joy to the World

Hello everyone,
it's Anna here with a post as a guest designer for Gerda Steiner Designs. I was lucky enough to work with their new CAROL KITTEN stamp set as it is a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y adorable!

The set has 4 cute kitten singing carols. All so funny and big enough to play with shades while coloring. I used one of them for my card, the one I find the cuttest ^_^

Now, few steps of making.

First of all I pre-stamped the images and picked the one I wanted to work with. Then I colored it using pencils, also added so glossy accents.

I also made background piece using oxide inks (tattered rose and tumbled glass), stamped the sentiment and added white dots (kinda snow, lol).

For the finale touches I added glossy accents dots to the background and did the black liner stitches.

Hope you enjoyed and maybe see you again!

Joy! Joy! Joy!

Hi there! Cathy here with a card using the adorable new Carol Kittens stamp set.

I wanted these little kitties wearing my favorite color,
so I went with a non-traditional color scheme on this one.

I started by die-cutting a piece of watercolor cardstock using a stitched rectangle die from MFT. I stamped and masked the kittens and inked a soft background using Angel Pink Memento ink and a cloud stencil.

I stamped the Joy sentiment from this set in Versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder to give them a snowy look. To make them stand out a little bit, I traced around the letters with a gray colored pencil.

I colored the kittens with Prismacolor pencils and then cut a straight line on each side and fussy cut around the bottom of them.

I die-cut a patterned paper using the same stitched rectangle die and then adhered the watercolor piece to the top.

To finish it off, I stamped a Lawn Fawn banner stamp on a teal watercolor patterned paper, fussy cut around it and matted it on black cardstock. The "TO THE WORLD" stamp in the Carol Kittens set fit perfectly inside this banner!

I heat embossed the sentiment in WOW! Long Island Teal embossing powder. It's got a nice sparkle to it and hint of gold.

These kittens are too cute, but I'll bet they sound terrible!

Hope you enjoyed and see you soon!
